K’Nex

I was recently given the opportunity to test out a couple of building sets from K’Nex through Team Mom. We received a 400 piece tub and a Sesame Street branded set that included a police station and Elmo figure, in uniform. They were sent to me to try and review at no cost to me and I was able to keep the sets after trying them. One thing I will say about K’Nex is that I am SO glad we were able to keep them. Honestly, they have been a fabulous addition to our toy rotation.

Immediately upon opening them they were scooped up and played for for HOURS. My 4 year old son loved them so much that I don’t think he touched another toy for days. He’s a very picky little boy with very few interests outside of toy vehicles of all sorts so this made me giddy. And of course the sets came with some wheels so his love for everything 4-wheeled was well taken care of – be built cars! Of course! :) He didn’t follow any instructions that came with the set and instead built his own idea of what he wanted. I loved that!! These days every toy you buy has batteries, buttons, noise and every electronic function under the sun. It leaves kids little room to use their imaginations. My son also really enjoyed the Sesame Street set as it’s chunky and more like your usual building block sets. He spent a lot of time rearranging his police station and “decorating” it just so. We also used the time to discuss shapes and colors.

I had worried about buying him toys like this in the past because all I could think of was the gigantic mess that would be left behind. But thankfully the tub that these pieces come with is perfect for storage and helps the kids with pick up. They know right where to put them and it closes nicely when we’re finished. No spills and it looks tidy when stored. Another plus. I am excited to possibly add on to these sets in the future as I was informed that they work nicely with Lego sets and of course other sets of K’Nex.

These sets retail for around $20.99 (for the 400 pc tub) and $9.99 (Sesame Street Police Station). They are available at most major retail stores such as Walmart and Target.
