Bringing Layaway back!
I stumbled upon a news article earlier today about layaway and how it’s making a come back. With credit becoming harder to obtain and even being scaled back on customers without fantastic credit scores layaway is a great way to go. No interest and plenty of time to get Christmas all paid for with no guilt after New Years. It reminded me of old times when I was a kid and mom had all of our Christmas gifts on layaway at various stores that offered it. That was way back before credit was so popular. Though I don’t think that was the major reason for her shopping method. She just wanted to keep us out of the stuff. I was a notorious snooper and if it was sitting in layaway, that wasn’t a possibility.
Now that I’ve read that article and thought about it more, I am SO tempted to make a run to Kmart sometime this week and see what I can find for the kids. I’ve been in quite a bind knowing that they have asked for a couple of larger priced items and I’m having a rotten time saving for them. Kmart Layaway (they are one of the few with this program still) could be just the ticket to find “Spike the Ultra Dinosaur”. I’m so worried about it becoming a “hot” item and being harder to obtain as the holiday grows closer. If I don’t get that thing for him he’ll be crushed. Layaway could give some security as far as that goes!
