because I’ve had fantastic luck lately!
A picture frame that I had ordered with a gift certificate from the Picture People came a couple of weeks ago but it was busted into tiny little pieces so I refused shipment and called them up. Of course they promptly sent out another which arrived within 2 days. Cool beans! Fast forward to a week later and yet another frame arrives. I immediately think “oh crap, now there will be a $30 charge on my card!”, but that charge has never showed up! Score.. free frame. Yeah, yeah.. I should have been all honest and sent it back. But I’m not.. get over it!
Then yesterday I received a shipment of photo ink and paper for my printer from Dell. Only instead of one package, I received two. A double order! I was only charged for the one though. I’m keeping quiet. My printer stopped recognizing the ink cartridges that I had in the first place so I had to order before I actually ran out of ink, wasting the $$ I had spent on the initial ones. It was a huge pain and that is expensive! $75 for two of them.
I figure they owe me.
So today I thought I would probably luck out in some way with the car issues. Uhh.. yeah. Whatever. The initial estimate?????? $1300! Go ahead, faint. I did. I also cried and freaked out. We don’t have $1300 sitting around for this sort of thing. My hubby is an E6 in the military, not an executive. So I called my Dad and cried to him and he tells me that estimate is way too high for the repair that needs to be done. Great! But he was nice enough to look up all of the costs for this job while he was there at work and then call the dealership down here to find out why they’re trying to overcharge us about $500. He did that and they dropped the price from 1300 to 860. Sucks, but it’s way better! The guy agreed with my Dad about the price being inflated and then gave us an extra 10% off of what the actual price should have been. Go Dad! So as usual there goes a large portion of our bonus payment next week. Seriously. But I’m not letting it get me down too badly. Sure we won’t be paying down any bills like I had planned, but at least it’s not an extra $860 for us to be paying interest on until we’re 90.
What I am getting a bit down about is the fact that both of my kids have runny noses and horrible mood issues. Add that in with not taking a NAP today.. and I’m a little off mentally. So I think I’ll go wrestle them down, shove some medicine in their systems and dump each of them into their cribs. Sleep or not, they’re not staying up and bugging me any longer. They can sit and wipe their snot all over themselves if they want, but they won’t be out here tearing the place up. ARRGH. Hopefully they’ll chill out for a few hours. Pray for me.
Thanks for the happy anniversary wishes – much appreciated
We had a nice evening for the most part. Since we have toddlers and they’re like soooo not allowed to go out to eat with us, we got take-out from Outback. My steak was perfect! You know, like nearly raw. lol I’m one of those people who prefer it moo’ing. I never used to, but after the stomach surgery it’s the only way I can keep it down. (yes, lovely TMI, I know)
The sucktastic part of our night was that the car went all wonky on our way home and threatened to shut down on us. It’s low on coolant so the warning light went crazy, with the beeping and all. That’s enough to make me freak out.. JUST A LITTLE. I’m so afraid of being stranded on the side of the road with my babies. ugh. So that will need to be looked at sometime this week. Thanks goodness my Dad is a mechanic and works on these piece of shit Buicks daily. Without his advice over the phone I’d be out of luck much of the time. It’s “fixed” enough for now until we can get it in to find out why it’s leaking coolant. This is a pattern with that crappy piece of crap.
We’re due to get a bonus payment next week so of course something will suck that $$ out of our hands. This happens every single time we come into any large sum of money. It’s almost scary how predictable it is. The last one was the week we our tax refund was deposited.
*sighs*
And now I must try and get myself to sleep. I’m having a horrible time with that lately. Normally I take my iPod to bed and watch a tv show or two on that in order to nod off, but two 45 minute episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and I’m still awake. One of these days I need to go to the doc and beg for sleeping pills or something. The only thing that puts me to sleep is a Vicodin. Sadly I’m nearly out of my post op stashes and I’m afraid of becoming a junkie.. so.. heh There has to be something better out there.
Five years ago today we hurried to the San Diego county courthouse and signed our lives away to this whole marriage deal. It was strange getting married at 4 in the afternoon on a Wednesday, but unfortunately that’s all the good ol’ US Navy gave us time for. Afterwards he headed our uber classy selves to the Burger King drive thru for dinner as that’s all we could afford. I probably should have taken that as a sign. You know.. run.. run for your life. But I was a different person back then, mentally and physically. I was 20 yrs old and still had those rose colored glasses on. *sighs*
The last year has been extremely difficult, the worst on record, and even I’m a little surprised we’re still married and that things are actually “ok”. They are. They’re about as good as they’ve been in a very long time. Probably better than they were 5 years ago.
Oh.. wait, this is supposed to be one of those happy anniversary to me posts.
So despite it all, Happy Anniversary to Us!
Here’s to hoping the next year will be drama free !
… or otherwise known as the ‘popcorn popper’. The most evil of all toys. Fear it. Do NOT let anyone buy you one. If they do, kindly smack them in the head with it.

Sorry, it’s dark, but you totally get the idea. They’ll soon be sending these overseas to force info from the POW’s.
(and yes, this is what my home is like in the evenings.. not even a warm bath and jammies slows these two down!)
This one is super easy! You fill out the survey and if you qualify you’ll get a free Senseo coffee maker. The trick is to indicate in the survey that you’ll tell a bazillion people how much you love your new coffee maker. I filled it out and a week later I was approved and asked for my shipping info. I should have the Senseo within a few weeks. A bunch of people on a freebie board I frequent have already received theirs so it’s totally valid. Not a bad deal!
Coach and their darn 25% off preferred customer events! We had to take a little trip the mall to use my discount.. again. I was good though – only bought a keychain and a coin purse to match the bag I bought in June. Not much damage at all. Just enough to hopefully stay a preferred customer. It would be great if they sent another in a couple of months. You know.. Christmas hint for the hubby. lol
Free bottle of OPI nail lacquer!
Super easy, just watch the demo! And if you’re like me, you’ll fast forward.. lol
The hubby and I took a trip to the “nice” mall here and I managed to get a haircut at the salon there. Yay, yay, yay! It was so lovely to be sans kids, walking through the mall without wondering when the next meltdown would happen. I can now run my fingers through my mane without getting them tangled and breaking off pieces of my fried hair. Two years is way too long to go between trims, I’ll tell you that much. Though the first words out of my Grandma’s mouth were “she didn’t cut it even”. Yeah, they’re called layers Grandma.. lol
As for the rest … I cannot believe it was an entire year ago that I was sitting in a hospital room, counting down the hours until I could get out of there with my new baby boy. We left at exactly 2:04 pm on the 10th as they technically had to keep me there for at least 48 hrs after my c-section. I physically felt good enough to leave way before that though. I’m not a hospital loving girl. No one could believe how great I looked or how active I was so shortly after a surgery. I never quite got that as it was just a c-section.. not a quadruple bypass or something, you know? Squeezing a watermelon sized baby out of a lemon sized hole sounds much more painful if you ask me. lol Anyway …
Will had himself a great little birthday. You know, ignoring the gifts, smooshing cake between his fingers and then throwing a fit when he had had enough. You have to love being a one year old. We took him to JCPenney for one year photos this morning and though it wasn’t perfect (does that exist with kids this age??), it wasn’t too bad. We managed to get some cute, albeit pouty, photos of him. I’m anxious to see the final results as the photos on their computers are never quite as good as the final prints. I love that he’s a September baby as that’s when all of the fall stuff starts. It’s a great excuse to use seasonal props during his yearly photos.
Tomorrow the hubby and I are going out for breakfast alone. Nothing fancy, just IHOP. They’re having the “french toast fantasy” special and I’m all about some french toast.. though any meal without kids throwing food and utensils my way is a fantasy come true. lol We decided on that instead of a fancy, ridiculously expensive dinner I guess. We try to go out once on a “date” whenever we have someone visiting who’s willing to babysit. It’s amazing how well we get along when we’ve had a couple of hours alone. Too bad it’ll go right back to the chaotic day to day life we’re so used to after Grandma goes home. Oh well! We’ll miss her for that reason but also because she rocks. Aubree has been all about “Gamma” since she arrived, holding her hostage in her bedroom to play with her toys and snuggle. Can we say “awwww”???
will be funky around here for a bit
Oh boy.. what a day! Ernesto hit hard today.. lordy. Many parts of Norfolk are flooded out the wazoo. Luckily we’re fine. No water in our apartment, just flooding in the parking lots and main street.
Just thought I’d post here for those who may wonder. I haven’t had a connection that lasted for long all day. ugh. What a bastard. lol But hopefully that’s all over with now!
